Venus, Serena and Katrina
My heart goes out to all of the people in Louisiana and Mississippi who have lost their homes and loved ones.
I remember having to evacuate in 1998 for Hurricane Georges. It took us 4 hours to drive about 30 miles west on I-10. I took some fellow friends to my parents' house, which was out of danger. We were hurricane refugees.
When I was a kid, we had regular hurricane drills in school. We even had little kits with fresh water, hurricane tracking charts. It was just a part of life where I grew up.
So on a lighter note, I played hooky from work yesterday and spent the day here.
I didn't feel too bad, because it was work-sanctioned. My firm gave me really awesome tickets.
We were so close to the court, I was within 25 feet of Venus, Serena and Rafael Nadal (what a hottie!!). I could have thrown a tennis ball and hit each of them, I was so close.
Unfortunately, my camera batteries died, so I have no photographic proof! I could have kicked myself. You'll just have to take my word for it.
I did get to see my favorite female player win her match.
And on our way out, we passed a small court where a guy was warming up. Not too many people were paying attention; there were a few hanging out by the bleachers next to the court.
I gasped, "Oh my goodness..that's Lleyton Hewitt!"
Yeah, he was just hanging out and practicing his serve.
I think I swooned.
