I had an appointment to see my ob/gyn next week. But I have to reschedule it, because I have an important meeting at work the same day.
I called the doctor's office yesterday to reschedule. I didn't think it would be a big deal to get an appointment for later in the week.
But the receptionist said, "Her next available appointment is November 1."
November? Yes, apparently, my ob/gyn has gotten really popular.
Dammit! I started seeing her 6 years ago, when she was still a resident and it was easy to get an appointment with her.
Now she has all of these fancy new patients. And I feel like everyone has discovered MY secret restaurant, that nobody knew about before, but then it was given a good review in the NY Times, so now it's impossible to get a reservation.
So I did the next best thing - I made an appointment with her partner, Dr. S.
I've met Dr. S before. He was on call one night last year when I had to make an emergency appointment for bad cramps. He just joined the practice a year ago.
Dr. S is young and totally hot. And he's gay.
Which made me wonder for a millisecond - what makes a gay man want to be an ob/gyn?
When I told one of my friends this story, she made a cynical remark about wanting to look at the menu even though you don't eat at the restaurant.
But then I thought, maybe he wants to help women and babies, like all baby doctors do! And his sexual orientation should have nothing to do with it.
I certainly don't care, because I've never thought I have to have a female ob/gyn. And besides, Dr. S is a really good doctor. He's well dressed, has soft hands, a soothing bedside manner, and he's very attentive.
And he had appointment openings for most of next week.
This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
