Poker? I Hardly Know Her

What a month February has been. I got some sort of flu and was laid out for almost a week. Still catching up.

The good news is that during my down time, the Husband taught me how to play poker. Texas Hold 'Em, to be exact.

I think he's created a monster.

Unlike in my work and personal life (in which I'm extremely conservative and risk-averse), I'm apparently a high-risk, live-on-the-edge poker player.

I bet on every hand. I never fold. I throw those chips into the pool like they're candies.

I get all excited, even when I have nothing valuable in my hand. I raise the bet all of the time.

As a result, my opponents get really confused. They think I couldn't be so foolish to bluff on certain hands, and as a result, I keep them on their toes.

Yeah, sure I still lost over and over again.

But at least it happened quickly and painlessly!

Evolution

The evolution of Valentine's Day in my relationship with the Husband:

Year 1: Fancy romantic dinner (4 courses) in a fancy restaurant, dancing, flowers, jewelry, large box of nice chocolates.

Year 2: Fancy romantic dinner (4 courses) in a fancy restaurant, large box of nice chocolates.

Year 3: Romantic dinner (3 courses) cooked at home by devoted boyfriend, large box of nice chocolates.

Year 4 (Year 1 of marriage): Romantic dinner (Chinese food delivery) ordered from local restaurant by devoted husband, small box of nice chocolates.

Year 5 (Year 2 of marriage): Romantic dinner at Popeye's fried chicken, bag of Hershey's Kisses.

Year 6 (Year 3 of marriage): 1 course pasta dinner cooked at home by devoted husband, fell asleep before dessert.

Stupor Bowl

We watched the Super Bowl last night.

I've never been that excited about football - for me, it's a chance to hang out with friends and eat and drink a lot.

And after his beloved New York Jets lost a couple of weeks ago, the Husband lost interest in this year's outcome.

But we had fun at the party we went to. Especially our friend who is a huge Green Bay Packers fan.

This guy is so into the Packers, he had a Packers-themed wedding. The bridesmaids wore gold and green, and the tables were numbered after the jersey numbers of famous Packers. Th e wedding cake was decorated in Packers colors, and the bride and groom danced to Packers fight songs.

"Yeah," his wife told me. "I can pretty much have whatever I want for the rest of my life because I let him do this."
